Viljandi gets a new and modern hospital
A new hospital is being built in Viljandi, which will be the first healthcare facility built from scratch in Southern Estonia since Estonia regained its independence. The 23,000 square metre building not only serves an important purpose in providing high-quality healthcare but is designed to be a new pillar in rebuilding the county’s health and social care systems.
The new hospital will employ nearly 500 people, including general practitioners, specialists and nurses. The goal of the project is to create a modern health and social services centre that will provide the best care and treatment for patients. The hospital is expected to be completed in 2025.
The contracting entity is Viljandi Hospital and the main contractor is the consortium Rand ja Tuulberg Grupp and AS Ehitustrust. Electrical works are being performed by Electrum AS, the electrical accessories are supplied by Esvika AS, and the cables are produced by Prysmian.
The electrical works have lasted eight months, and as a result of the continuous work of 28 electricians, 80% of the cables and more than half of the trunk and group cabling have been installed by today. In total, it is necessary to install more than 230 km of different high current and automation cables; 7 km of cableways; more than 7,100 lights and 1,280 lighting control devices; 100 electrical switchboards; over 6,300 different switches and sockets and many other devices, without which the hospital could not function.
The establishment of the new Viljandi Hospital is a first-of-its-kind and unique project in the context of Estonia. The new concept for the healthcare and social services centre improves the ability to treat patients and save their lives.
