Sustainability is our priority

Categories: Corporate  Sustainability

Our aim is to ensure the sustainability of processes related to the company and to protect the environment. “Sustainability is not only our approach to business management but also a commitment we owe to future generations. We want to be a global player with a key role in the process of reducing carbon emissions, and to achieve this, we promote sustainable economic growth for people and the planet,” explains Maria Cristina Bifulco, Head of Investor Relations, Sustainability and Communications, regarding the principles of sustainability.

The sustainability strategy is based on four pillars

We implement the sustainability strategy through annual goals that are in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our sustainability strategy is based on four pillars, each of which contributes to the creation of added value for the benefit of the Group and all its stakeholders. These four pillars are environment, people and communities, leadership and innovation. To assess impact, we use 12 clear and measurable indicators that are presented in the annual sustainability report.

Innovation at every step

The Baltic organisation has introduced the Group sustainability strategy and impact scorecard. For example, in order to reduce the environmental impact, circular economy practices are applied in production, using fewer resources to make products and keeping materials in the production cycle for as long as possible – in 2023, we directed 80% of waste into circulation, and in coating and copper use, we increased the proportion of recycled material to 16%. These efforts have not gone unnoticed – in 2023, the Responsible Business Forum awarded us with a gold-level quality label.

In addition, the marketing and sales team introduced the new concept ECO CABLE, which markets cables with a lower environmental impact in the Baltics. The plan is to promote the reduction of the impact of cables and to increase the portfolio and sales of low-impact products.

People are at the centre of our activities

For our employees, we aim to prevent health and safety risks and increase diversity, equality and inclusion. In terms of diversity, equality and inclusion, the Baltic HR department implements practices to maintain gender balance in management and in the office, and to achieve this in production, while monitoring supporting activities related to the management impact index (e.g., feedback training). The objective of governance is to ensure transparency, accountability and alignment of the interests of the stakeholders and includes tax strategy, cyber security and compliance.

In addition, we support electrical education, the local community and the voluntary contribution of our employees.

We launched a new project, within the framework of which we supplied Estonian electrical vocational schools and the Vilnius Technical Vocational Training Centre with cables. In addition, we supported non-formal education in the field of science – the Enerhack camp and science club in Keila school, and we participated in the Positron fair, which introduces energy to young people. Last year, our employees contributed 100 hours to volunteering, contributing to the Food Bank, weaving safety nets and Keila health trail projects. In addition, we support the blood centre and encourage our employees to become blood donors.

We will continue our work to create a better future for ourselves, our partners, customers and the community.
